Thanks to your Generosity, Patients Benefit from Calming Exercise Program!

Patients in the mental health program at Victoria Hospital now have the opportunity to participate in Therapeutic Qigong (Pronounced chee·guhng) classes, a wellness initiative made possible by your support.

Qigong is an ancient practice that blends martial arts principles, gentle movements, and focused breathing. Each bi-weekly, 30-minute session promotes healthy movement and breath awareness, offering valuable support to those facing mental health challenges.

The program is designed to be inclusive, accommodating patients of all ages, lifestyles, and physical or cognitive abilities. Whether seated or standing, everyone can take part—even language barriers are no obstacle.

Staff have already observed remarkable benefits, including improved moods, laughter, and more frequent smiles. Many patients have shared that they feel deeply relaxed after sessions, a testament to the mindfulness and breathing techniques incorporated into the program.

QiGong Instructors in WinnipegQiGong instructors Marshall and Gail have been leading the sessions. While they initially approached the first class with some uncertainty, their worries quickly faded. Marshall reflected on the experience: “I could see their shoulders soften and tension ease within minutes. It was clear the session was making a difference.”

Your generosity has funded an entire year of Qigong classes, ensuring that numerous groups of patients can experience the benefits of this unique wellness program.

Thank you for helping us bring this impactful initiative to life and supporting the mental health and well-being of our patients!
