200 Plants Brighten The Holidays For Patients At The Vic

Blog, News

Our hospital felt a little more like home over the holidays – and it was all thanks to the support of our community.

A number of supporters signed up to send poinsettias to patients this holiday season through The Vic Foundation’s Plants for Patients program. Two hundred plants were hand-delivered by The Vic Foundation’s staff and volunteers to help patients in hospital feel comforted over the holiday season.

Doris Dong, Director of Programs & Patient Services for Mental Health, Therapeutic Services, and Spiritual Health says patients were thrilled to receive the plants.

“Their faces lit up right away,” recalls Doris. “There were smiles across every unit. It was incredibly special for our staff to see how happy our patients were to receive these plants.”

Doris says patients have been taking the plants home with them upon discharge and those who are still in hospital have been taking ownership over the plants.

“Many patients have taken the initiative to water and care for the plants,” says Doris. “This has been very positive to see as it motivates and supports their recovery.”

Thank you to everyone who signed up to make the holidays happier for patients at The Vic!
