Through the generosity of The Vic Foundation's endowment fund supporters, more than 200 staff at Victoria Hospital and ACCESS Fort Garry attended educational workshops with world-renowned dementia care educator Teepa Snow.
Both clinical and non-clinical staff had the opportunity to learn Teepa's groundbreaking techniques which are rooted in the importance of empathy. Staff learned valuable strategies to adapt their own behaviour and environment in order to provide better and more dignified care for patients and families living with dementia.
"Valuable learning opportunities such as this one help us to establish the highest standards of Senior Friendly Care in South Winnipeg," said Rachel Ferguson, Chief Operating Officer. "Learning about and understanding dementia helps our staff to develop increased confidence and comfort in caring for dementia patients and supporting their family members and caregivers."
These informative workshops were made possible thanks to the supporters of three Foundation endowment funds: The John and Esther Loewen Family Endowment, The Dr. Ian Maxwell Endowment and The Dr. Victor & Lynn Rosenfield Endowment.
The Vic Foundation has granted over $150,000 to support educational opportunities for staff since 2003.
