Improved Facilities for Better and Safer Care

Your support reaches every corner of our hospital – easing pain, enhancing quality of life and improving health and well-being.

Your extraordinary dedication and support made it possible for us to invest $9.5 million toward the construction of our Buhler Cancer Centre, Urgent Care Centre and state-of-the-art upgrades to two minimally invasive surgery suites.

Buhler Cancer Centre

While Victoria Hospital's highly-skilled staff have always provided high quality patient care, our previous Oncology clinic lacked the space and access to natural sunlight that would be beneficial to patients undergoing chemotherapy and thus the vision for the relocation and expansion of our Oncology clinic was born.

Our community rallied their support behind this important project and as a result our Buhler Cancer Centre opened in 2008.

The Buhler Cancer Centre provides comfort and privacy for patients in a space purposefully designed to heal the mind, body and spirit. This bright and spacious environment also provides the best in technology and resources so that our expert staff can continue to provide high quality care for our community. Our Miracle Garden wraps around the Buhler Cancer Centre, offering patients a private view as they undergo treatment.

The Buhler Cancer Centre features a Solarium, a soothing environment full of natural light to promote healing and strength and support patients and families living with cancer.

Urgent Care Centre

Unprecedented growth in South Winnipeg prompted the construction of a modern and spacious Emergency Centre at Victoria Hospital, which opened in 2011. In order to provide better care for all patients and families in Winnipeg, our Emergency Centre transitioned to an Urgent Care Centre in October 2017.

Victoria Hospital's Urgent Care Centre provides coordinated and focused care for unexpected by non-life-threatening health concerns 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients benefit from more privacy, less noise and a more comfortable environment.

In the six months following the transition to Urgent Care, wait times improved by 29 per cent - decreasing from an average 2.12 hours to 1.5 hours.

Minimally Invasive Surgery Suites

Thanks to you, two of Victoria Hospital’s operating rooms were upgraded in 2010 to include state-of-the-art technology such as high definition cameras, flat-panel monitors and video conferencing equipment.

But even more impressive than these technological upgrades are the benefits patients now experience: less pain and scarring, fewer complications and less risk of infection, significantly reduced recovery time and a quicker return to regular activities.

This highly-efficient environment allows for more surgeries to be scheduled per day and helps Victoria Hospital to attract the best and brightest surgeons. Staff also benefit from working in an unencumbered space using the best technology available.
